is a Senior Science Writer at the American Chemical Society. He came to ACS in 2005 following a five-year stint as a Public Affairs Specialist at the National Institutes of Health. At the NIH, he wrote two award-winning booklets, Aging Under the Microscope: A Biological Quest and Aging Hearts & Arteries: A Scientific Quest. Prior to that, he worked for nine years at Rodale Inc., in Emmaus, Pa. There, he co-authored three books on healthy aging and was a contributor to 16 other health and fitness books. Earlier in his career, he worked as a newspaper reporter in Oregon, California and Arizona.
In the past several years, Doug has immersed himself in video production, taking on the filming and editing of a number of ACS communications video projects including Speaking Simply about Science. He received training at the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science (CCS) at Stony Brook University in New York.
