Dr. Barry L. Farmer
is Chief Scientist in the Materials and Manufacturing Directorate, Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. He joined AFRL in 1998 as Senior Scientist, in Polymeric Materials. Prior to that, he was Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Virginia. He received a BS in Chemistry (1969) and a MS (1972) and PhD (1974) in Macromolecular Science from Case Western Reserve University. He has authored more than 200 publications on his research, focusing on structure-property relationships of polymers and related materials using computational approaches and x-ray diffraction techniques. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and has served for 20 years as Secretary-Treasurer and as a member of the Executive Committee of the APS Division of Polymer Physics. He is a past-chair of the Division of Polymer Chemistry of the American Chemical Society.
