“Nagu” Nagarajan received his Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo in chemical engineering in 1979 under the mentorship of Professor Eli Ruckenstein working on a statistical thermodynamic treatment of the formation of micelles and vesicles by surfactants. He began his academic career at The Pennsylvania State University in 1979 where he established a theoretical and experimental research programs in colloid, polymer and surfactant science. He retired from Penn State in 2005 as Emeritus Professor of Chemical Engineering, to start a research program at the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Development & Engineering Center.
Prof. Nagarajan is a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the American Institute of Chemists. He has served as the Program Chair of the ACS Division of Colloid and Surface Chemistry for 23 National meetings and has been recognized with the Outstanding Service Award from the Division. Prof. Nagarajan has the distinction of having served as the Chair of the 62nd (1988), 72nd (1998), and 76th (2002) ACS Colloid and Surface Science Symposia. He was elected a Fellow of the American Chemical Society in 2012.
