Dr. Carl E. Heltzel was formerly the Monroe Moosnick Professor of Chemistry at Transylvania University, where he taught and created chemistry courses for more than nine years. Dr. Heltzel has taught ACS courses since 2010.
Dr. Heltzel has garnered awards for his teaching at Transylvania and Clemson University. He served as a visiting professor at the University of Hawaii, the University of Kentucky, and Chaminade University.
Dr. Heltzel is the co-author or editor of nine chemistry and environmental chemistry textbooks, including two editions of the ACS textbook Chemistry in Context. More recently, Dr. Heltzel served as co-editor and chapter author of another ACS book, Accessibility in the Laboratory (Oxford University Press, 2018).
Dr. Heltzel served as Editor for the ACS magazine ChemMatters and is a member of ACS’s Chemists with Disabilities Committee. He is a past member of the ACS Exam Committee and the Committee on Environmental Improvement.
