About the Course

Investigate chemical properties and exposure factors linked to adverse health conditions ranging from eye/skin irritation to allergic responses, birth defects, or cancer. Basic toxicology terminology and principles will be described, as well as the key regulations that are applicable in the handling, transportation, and use of chemical products.

General topics are:

  • The discipline of toxicology and key regulations
  • Chemical properties linked to toxic effect
  • How to develop new toxicity and metabolism data
  • Relevance of animal toxicity data to human health
  • Classification of health hazards of chemicals

Special Notes:
An introductory presentation will be available on the class website to acquaint participants with the field of ecological toxicology and chemical fate in the environment.

What You Will Learn

  • Become familiar with concepts used in the toxicology field.
  • Prepare yourself to actively participate in chemical development projects.
  • Gain insights into data acquisition.
  • Speak informatively on chemical safety and regulatory issues, and
  • Learn how to communicate chemical safety to the general public.

Who Should Attend

Chemists, regulatory, and other technical professionals who are responsible for chemical safety, regulatory matters, and communications needed in employee safety, product stewardship, and product development.
